Christkindlesmarkt celebrates the old German tradition of a holiday outdoor market with foods, drinks, and handmade goods perfect for gift giving. Christkindlesmarkt translates to “Baby Jesus Market” and typically has nativity and advent activities as well. This German tradition started hundreds of years ago and has been popping up around the US over the past few years and has branched out to many other European countries as well.

Many of our modern Christmas traditions hail from German traditions, so it seems fitting that they have celebrated these traditions for centuries at these special markets. The Advent, making gingerbread houses and even most of what we know of Santa hails from Germany. Claus is definitely a German name! 🙂
